We love the Sun. We believe limited, smart exposure is actually pretty good for the skin, body and mind. Covering the skin is always your best option if you desire protection.

Our mineral based SPF 15 Sun Balm can offer your lips some extra protection. It glides on silky smooth like our regular balms but we formulated it to be extra thick and creamy for longer staying power while out in those shining rays!

Juicy tangerine with hints of vanilla...the unique scent of roman chamomile lends a calming note. Packed full of amazing cold pressed oils to moisturize and protect.

Yes, many swipes will indeed give your lips a whiteish tint.  This shows that the zinc barrier is present and that is good. If your lips aren't slightly whitened, they are not protected. There is no GRAS approved sunscreen that is clear!

Hurraw! Sun Lip Balm SPF15

Red raspberry seed oil: Exceptionally high in tocopherols, this lovely oil nourishes, is anti-inflammatory and may help in the absorbance of the Sun's rays.

Sea buckthorn seed oil: Super rich and off the charts in essential fatty acids, carotenes, tocopherols, and phytosterols..

Pomegranate seed oil: Deeply penetrating and an anti-oxidant powerhouse.

Here's the deal with Zinc Oxide. We use non-nano zinc oxide in our Sun Balm. Zinc oxide is the only all natural, broad spectrum (blocks both UVA and UVB) sun screen available today. As of 2019, zinc oxide is one of only two GRASE (Generally Recognized As Safe and Effective) ingredients for sun protection. The other is titanium dioxide but there are some not so great issues with ingesting titanium dioxide so we'll leave it out of our lip balm. Thumbs up FDA for safer consumer protections and regulations! Now, please enforce them -- *crickets*

Zinc oxide is a bright white mineral. It protects your lips by sitting on top of them and thus, provides a physical barrier against UVA and UVB rays. It actually deflects the rays away from the skin to prevent any harm. For adequate protection it must be applied often.

SPF 15 means that your skin is protected 'longer' than without the SPF 15 product. If you have very fair skin, perhaps the Sun makes you 'pink' in just five minutes whereas a darker complexed human might get more time. HOWEVER, SPF factor is not as simple how much extra time you get as one must also consider the amount and intensity of sun exposure. There are many factors to sun exposure: Time of day? Cloud cover? Eclipse? Are you on the water (or snow) where Sun rays are more concentrated? At a high altitude where you are literally closer to the Sun? When did you last apply your zinc? Be.Sun.Smart. Listen to your body. Listen to the Sun. Wear big brimmed hats.

Reef Safe?: In our opinon based on research we have read...any SPF, chemical or mineral (zinc/titanium), is not great for the ocean's reefs or any aquatic life. Many will claim their zinc or titanium mineral SPF's are "reef safe." You must consider the saturation of zinc oxide in a water source and what species have been tested with zinc oxide concentrations placed in their aquatic home. Zinc oxide is in fact, very toxic to certain species of aquatic creatures and huge warning stickers come on all zinc products to alert manufacturers to this. Reefs are suffering. Please think twice before entering any body of water with massive amounts of SPF on your skin, it will inherently wash off to some degree.

Is Hurraw! SPF balm "Reef Safe?”: Probably-ish. The amount of zinc oxide that would disperse from a few swipes of our SPF balm would likely not negatively affect a reef’s biological and ecological characteristics. But what if a million people went in the water by that reef wearing SPF lip balm? There is no yes or no answer, it all depends on the situation.

We get our Sun Balm tested frequently at an independent lab on human subjects to verify the SPF factor. If you'd like to see that, give us a shout.

Still good but seems like formula has changed, less creamy and moisturizing I think

Rachel! Awww, sorry that it doesn't seem as good! Same formula, same supply chain, and it's still the same people making it after all of these years :) We'll keep trying!

Almost great...

I purchased the Sun, Moon, & Green Tea lip balms for myself, and Mint & Kapha for my mom. All were so delicious except for this one and the Green Tea. Green Tea just really didn't taste or smell like green tea to me, and it wasn't the most pleasant scent either. On the contrary, the Sun balm smelled and tasted incredible! I loved the sweet orange flavor it had... but it chapped my lips pretty badly. I didn't understand why that was, until I put it through the Yuka app, which determined that citrus oils can be an allergen. It's a low risk ingredient, but I suppose I'm sensitive to it. I really like the Moon balm, it does actually taste like tea, and thankfully my gifts to my mom smelled lovely! I'm a little scared to try other flavors based on the Green Tea turnout, but I do intend to order more in the future. Thank you!

Thanks for your review...Our Green Tea is more in the 'jasmine green tea' arena...we have customers that love it and others, not so much. Get in touch with us and we'll swap it out for you! Citrus oils can be irritating even at the lose dose we include them but also zinc can be very drying and an allergen too! Gah, it's always something right?!
